The main principle

There is no single “best” UAE free zone. Each authority has its own licensing rules, permitted activities, facilities and commercial positioning. The right choice depends on what the company will actually do.

Start here

Six questions before choosing a free zone.

01

What will you sell?

Define the exact activity first: service, consultancy, e-commerce, trading, logistics, manufacturing, finance, media or another regulated activity.

02

Where are your customers?

Consider whether you will operate mainly inside the free zone, internationally, online, or directly within the wider UAE market.

03

What physical space is needed?

Some models work with co-working or flexi space; others need offices, warehouses, industrial land, retail space or specialist facilities.

04

How many people?

Shareholders, managers, employees and future visa requirements can change the most efficient package and facility choice.

05

What will banks see?

Your activity, ownership, premises, countries of trade and business model can all affect banking and compliance considerations.

06

Where are you going next?

Choose for the business you want to build, not only the cheapest first-year package. Expansion, branches, regulation and facilities matter later.

Free-zone entity types are not all the same.

The source guide explains that businesses may establish a new free-zone entity or a branch of an existing UAE or foreign company, depending on the authority and activity. Naming conventions, shareholder limits, capital rules and legal forms vary by zone.

BranchForeign company or UAE company branch, where permitted
Special structureFinancial, offshore, industrial or regulated structures may follow separate rules

Important source note

The supplied PKF publication itself states that its information is general and may become outdated. Vantablack therefore uses it as a reference map only. Pricing, capital requirements, tax treatment, permitted activities, visa quotas and licensing procedures must be verified against the relevant authority before any decision is made.
